The nearness of Őcsény airport opens up a new prespect to the development of domestic air transpotation. The water supply is working well. The public sewer conducts the precipitation and sewage separatedly. The disposal of refuse is resolved with a view to environment protection. The electricity, gas and district heating system cover the requisement of the town. The network of telephones meet the exigencies of the time. The news of the local tv channels and the programs of other commercial tv channels are broadcast by the digital satellite system. The weekly paper Szekszárdi Vasárnap and two other commercial radio channels provide the news.

The county station of ambulance and the out-patient? clinic can be found here. 14 general practitioners and 8 paediatrists take care of the health provision in Szekszárd. The social welfare centre play an important role in welfare. Szekszárd has 10 primary schools, 9 secondary schools and 2 institutions of higher education. The secondary schools await the students from all over the county, five of them have their own dormitories. János Garay Grammar School was founded more than 100 years ago. Gyula Illyés Teachers? Training College is the part of University of Pécs. A branch of Dénes Gábor College is in Szekszárd teaching computer studies. The archives of Tolna county, Wosinszky Mór County Museum, Gyula Illyés County Library and Mihály Babits Community Centre help the public education of the town. House of Arts houses the work of contemporary and classic artists, high standard concerts and exhibitions are held. Several artist groups have scored success, like Bartina folk-dance group, Szekszárd Big Band, the chamber orchestra and the Madrigal Choir of Szekszárd. Forma Symposion the international colonies of artists is opened every summer. The German culture is promoted in Deutsche Bühne Ungarn - the only German language theatre of the country - and by other artist groups. Several associations and foundations play important role in the social, cultural and sport life of Szekszárd.

Szekszárd is traditionally a market town. The agriculture - mainly the viticulture- pushing the natural vegetation making Szekszárd region a well-known wine-country. New branches - beside food industry -the artificial leather industry, the precision engineering, engine production have appeared since 1960. Nowadays the commercial and catering trade develop. The traditional crafts are handed down by small-scale enterprises. The large enterprises are helped by external capital.

Szekszárd has close connections with its twincities and partner towns: Bietigheim-Bissingen (German), Bezons (French), Tornio (Finnish), Becse (Serbian), Lugos and Facsád(Romanian), Ravenna (Italian) and Waregem (Belgian) but with different importance. Alisca Wine Days and Enterprise Developing Professional Days have important part in tourism and economy. The cultural life of Szekszárd is enriched by programs connected to wine and whit attracting thousands of visitors, like Danube Region Festival. The Gemenc Cup International Bicycle Race and Sió Cup are important sports programs.

With the sense of responsibility the people of Szekszárd take care of and preserve the values. It is - birthplace of János Garay and Mihály Babits - the educational and cultural centre of the region with Sárköz, which is famous for its ethnography.

Szent László bridge of Danube - opened on 4 July 2003 - and motorway M9 opened a new chapter in the life of Szekszárd.

Infrastructural plans for the future are building of motorway M6. There are the plans for developing the tourism: Danube- Drava National Park.
